WILD CHANTERELLE MUSHROOMS

by | Food, Mushroom, The Lills, The Lills Food

Our first time foraging for wild chanterelle mushrooms was so much fun. A design client and friend of ours invited us to his beautiful property on an island in South Carolina. We went just to the edge of the forest and there were patches of golden mushrooms everywhere.

We learned chanterelle mushrooms are great for cooking with and pretty easy to find in the area. They tend to pop up from late spring to late summer and can be found near damp areas. Once we got the mushrooms home, we rinsed them off, cooked them in treat day butter and froze the remaining batch.

They are meaty, earthy and absolutely delicious. Chefs around the world cook with chanterelle mushrooms and consider them a gourmet item. They’re becoming so popular that they’re even starting to be carried at markets and some groceries. Keep an eye out for them and if you happen by some, give them a try!
