RESCUING A 1961 GM NEW LOOK BUS – PART 3

by | 2020 | The Lills, Travel, Vintage GM Bus Conversion

When the bus arrived, we had it delivered to a local diesel mechanic shop. They inspected the GM bus from top to bottom and everyone seemed impressed. They recommended that we take it over to another nearby shop that could handle a few small fixes, more affordably. A few days later, we shipped the bus around the corner to get it worked on.

The next shop repacked the bearings, replaced the seals, hubcaps, hub gaskets, plugs and break springs. This was exciting, but we only had 3 days to move the vehicle out of the shop and we still had no place to move it to! After some creative thinking and tons of phone calls, the universe blessed us with the perfect spot!

We couldn’t afford new tires or the other fixes that would allow us to drive the bus out of there safely, but we were able to affordably ship the bus to the location where we could begin working on transforming it into our home on wheels. We were amazed by the kindness of others and excited about the new friendships that we had made. We found a group of people who would soon become our bus family and gift us with the space, tools and knowledge to make our dream come true!
