HOMEMADE FLUORIDE-FREE TOOTHPASTE RECIPE
Our mouths are super absorbent and when we were using generic toothpastes, we were giving ourselves daily doses of bad chemicals that all headed to our blood streams. Nobody ever told us how many bad chemicals there are in generic toothpaste and we never bothered to look on the back and question what we were ingesting. It took waking up and looking around us to pin-point the changes we needed to make, like saying goodbye to generic toothpaste.
Keep an eye out for ingredients including fluoride, triclosan, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), desensitizing agents, micro-beads (plastic pellets), artificial sweeteners, diethanolamine (DEA) and other toxic chemicals that are found in most toothpastes. If you want to make the switch to a homemade alternative, see our simple toothpaste substitute recipe below.
Coconut Oil + Baking Soda Toothpaste Ingredients & Recipe:
- 1 tbs. virgin unrefined cold-pressed coconut oil
- 1 tbs. baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
- Mix until pasty, apply to your toothbrush, run some water over it and brush normally.
Notes:
*We also recommend adding 1-3 drops of mint oil.
*If you are not a fan of coconut oil, you can also just combine 1-2 drops of peppermint oil and 2 tsp. of baking soda.
*Store in a lidded jar and keep at room temperature or in a cool place.
