HOMEMADE ALUMINUM-FREE DEODORANT RECIPE

by | Baking Soda, Coconut, Food, The Lills, The Lills Food

The two of us are saying goodbye to generic deodorant. Most brands are full of harmful chemicals and toxins, like parabens, triclosan (a pesticide), diethanolamine (DEA), triethanolamine (TEA), propylene glycol, artificial colors, aluminum and more.

We read that aluminum actually clogs the body’s eccrine sweat glands, forcing the body to sweat in other areas. Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease, breast cancer, bone disorders, kidney issues and more, which is why more and more people are saying no to generic deodorants and antiperspirants.

Homemade Natural Aluminum Free Deoderant Recipe | Baking Soda Coconut Oil | The Lills

Even though humans are meant to sweat (sweating allows the body to purge toxins), supposedly 18 billion dollars is spent on deodorant and antiperspirants each year. Our armpits are super absorbent and the chemicals in these products head straight to our bloodstreams, which most people don’t realize.

Body odor comes from bacteria breaking down on the skin, so the real trick to fighting body odor is a clean diet. When we eat green, clean, fresh and whole foods, we smell less. When we eat meat, fried or processed foods, we smell more.

Rather than swiping chemicals over our pores, we’ve replaced generic deodorant with a simple substitute, using only 2 ingredients: coconut oil and baking soda. Coconut oil is a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, while baking soda neutralizes any odor and will alkalize the area. See our homemade aluminum-free deodorant recipe below.

Coconut Oil + Baking Soda Fast-Drying Deodorant/Antiperspirant Ingredients & Recipe:

  • 1 tbs. virgin unrefined cold-pressed coconut oil
  • 1 tbs. baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
  • Mix until pasty and massage a small bit into your armpits. Use as much or as little as you like.

Notes:

*We also recommend adding 1-3 drops of lime juice or mint oil.
*Store the homemade aluminum-free deodorant in a lidded jar and keep at room temperature or in a cool place.
