ALOE VERA COCONUT FACE + BODY GEL RECIPE

by | 2018 | Coconut, Food, The Lills

The two of us do our best to stay away from store bought lotions, creams and gels. They are usually full of unhealthy chemicals and they usually cost a pretty penny. We have instead begun playing around with making our very own concoctions, starting with a homemade aloe vera coconut gel for moisturizing our skin.

The gel that comes from the aloe vera plant is full of powerful antioxidants, vitamins, amino acids, minerals, salicylic acid and other antiseptic compounds that kill bacteria. It is a natural anti-inflammatory, it can be used on burns, cuts, break outs, minor wounds, cold sores and it can even be used as a shaving cream or as a makeup remover. Aloe vera gel moisturizes and soothes skin, it reduces inflammation, increases skin elasticity and some people even believe it fights wrinkles and aging. Try the Aloe Vera Coconut Face + Body Gel recipe below!

Aloe Vera Coconut Face + Body Gel Recipe:

  • Cut the aloe leaves, 1 inch from the base of the plant
  • Run a knife through the outer skin of the leaf (in one straight line from the tip, down the middle, to the other edge)
  • Cut off the tip of the aloe leaf
  • On both sides of the slit, run the knife between the flesh and the inside gel to separate the two
  • Fold back the separated sides
  • Using the flat edge of the knife, press firmly and drag to remove the gel from the leaf (try not to get any of the green flesh in the gel)
  • Pour the gel into a mason jar and set aside
  • Melt the coconut oil in a pan on very low heat
  • Put the aloe vera gel and the melted coconut oil into a blender and blend on medium, until thoroughly mixed together
  • Use immediately on the face, body and/or ends of hair
  • Store the gel in a mason jar and keep refrigerated (Note: It will harden in the fridge, but it will gel back up when you take it out and apply it to skin. It can last up to 7 days refrigerated)

Aloe Vera Coconut Face + Body Gel Ingredients & Supplies:

  • 3 medium aloe vera leaves (ours produced 2.5 ounces of gel)
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • A blender
  • A mason jar with a lid
